A Day in the Life

At Wild Space summer camp

The fly’s perspective: In this picture the kids are working on an art project and interacting with the teacher. This is the scene I would come to after flyering and the situation I would help clean up. It was during this time I got to converse with the kids and help them finish any of their projects.

Typical Day

Within the first week of my internship a typical day would consist of flyering in order to acquire more kids for the summer camp. At first, Asia, the other intern, and I would walk around and ask businesses if we would be able to put a flyer up for the summer camp. By the next day, we were driving around to different schools and neighborhoods to hang up flyers, with the owners permission. By the end of our day we would talk with our supervisor about the accomplishments we made and then would help the teachers clean up. Afterwards we would confer with our supervisor again, this time with the teachers, and go over what went well and what could have gone better.

Challenges

The challenges that occurred when flyering included people of the businesses not allowing people to put up flyers. This would be a minor setback, however, Asia and I quickly recovered and moved onto the next business. Another challenge we faced were businesses not being open hence the internship is very early in the morning. Many businesses open up at either ten or eleven, however, we were out flyering by nine. The challenge I am facing now is that I am currently sick, not with covid, but with a bad cold that has left me with no voice at the moment. I am writing this in bed and am disappointed that I am not able to work with the kids this week, however, my main focus right now is to get better.

Accomplishments

One of the main accomplishments I have made is getting to know the kids. The kids who are a part of this summer camp are very inquisitive, fun, and energetic. When helping the teachers clean up within the last 30 minutes of the day, I would talk with the students and they would ask for help from me to finish their art projects. They are a very social group so it is not difficult to partake in a conversation with them. Another accomplishment is that we successfully put up flyers in about 50 places which is absolutely crazy to think about. We do hope that kids will take the opportunity to take part in this fun summer camp.

Conclusion

In conclusion, a fly would see a girl gaining experience within a work field. Some things you may not be happy with doing and you may endure some setbacks, however, you always need to keep moving forward. The fly is currently watching me write this in bed, sick, however, by next week the fly will be watching me get up every morning, excited for my internship.
