(2020) A day in the life of BAZIL PEREZ

By: Bazil Perez (UWM Peck School of the Arts)

Daily routine of mine now and what it might be like soon

Mornings between 5-12 pm & till 6 p.m.

  • 5:30 a.m.: I typically wake up at this time and tend to scroll through my insta for 5 minutes and read the news for 10 minutes

    • I assume once I start the internship I will be waking up later at around 7:30 a.m.

  • 6:20 a.m.: at this time I typically start heading out with my dad to his job sites. Oftentimes this includes staying there since he does construction work.

    • 12:15: at this time we take our break so we can eat lunch, sometimes homemade other times takeout. It depends (with the internship I’d definitely be having more homemade meals!)

  • After forty minutes we get back to work and work until around 6. Then we head back home

  • Once back at home I go through my emails to check what I have to respond to. At this point I really to take a nap or sleep.

Days off and times I had to go to ArtsECO

  1. Oftentimes a lot of the meetings would be at nine in the morning so I’d wake up at 7:30 so I could  take the bus early to get there early.

  2. Once I arrived I was ready for anything they’d task me with. It was fun because the first time I saw them was to get paperwork ready.

  3. I went back home and cleaned up due to the fact I had a zoom meeting and I didn’t want my room looking like a mess, so thankfully with this internship I’ll be motivated to keep clean.

  4. With that I often tried to complete other things for work. Since I also write up invoices for my dad

  5. I reply to emails I get and do other home chores for the day.

How my teachings would go (I assume)

  • I will most definitely wake up at 7:00 since I have to be online at 8:30

  • From there I’d take a shower and brush my teeth

  • Eat a quick breakfast and drink coffee

  • From there I’d prepare my class for the day to be properly prepared. After class at 12 I’d have my lunch break and I’d either do takeout or cook at home.

  • From there my second class begins and I’d keep teaching until 4

  • After classes I’d clock out, clean up any mess and check on my siblings, text the other interns to see how it went for them.

  • Then probably text ,y supervisors to provide a report. I’d also probably ask the students on how I did and what they think I can do better. This is because I believe critique is important especially for the kids I’ll be helping see to what suits them best.

Conclusions

My life will definitely be a little more different, but that’s okay due to this being a new opportunity. I just hope that I will be able to handle this job because I fear I can’t do it. Although I’m certain I can, due to always being a mentor in my life some way or another. I also hope to be able to reach out to the other interns. They seem really friendly and I hope I can hang with them soon as well.
